The Truth

The scene that met Philip’s eyes from his bedroom window, let a sigh of desperation erupt, “Oh, Lord Jesus, please send us rain!”

He had just spent time on his knees praying, but looking at the scene, he asked, “Why are my prayers not answered, Lord?”

“Do you blame Me, son?” Jesus asked.

“No, Lord, but why is this drought so severe?”

“There are many reasons, Philip, but I am not controlling the weather. I can but I don’t. Nature runs its course and in some instances man is to blame.”

“When you pray, it has to be done in the spirit and in truth. Are you doing that?” (John 4:23,24)

“What is the truth, Lord?”

“The truth is that you need to believe I am able to send rain but also that I would.”

“The truth is that you realise that I, being your Saviour, am really listening to you when you pray and that I really can send you rain. That I am touching you because I am present.”

“But I do believe that, lord.”

“Not really, son. You pray but the moment you look out of the window and experience the heat, doubt creeps back into your heart. In your mind you suddenly wonder how many days more of this would you have to endure?”

“Every day you watch the weather forecast and when more sunny days are predicted, all hope disappears. That is not faith. The people at the weather station never asked Me before the forecast.”

“It is not easy to experience the drought but if you walk around in sadness with a long face, it is proof that you don’t believe.”

“When you pray in the spirit, do it also in the truth that I am Love and that you love Me too. Seek My face not because of the drought but because of Me.”

“If you really believe for what you have asked, you would praise Me for the advancing rain and your heart would be filled with joy carrying a broad smile on your face.”

“Elijah prayed earnestly and sent his servant seven times to look towards the sea before he saw a cloud appearing as small as a man’s hand. Then he stopped and told Ahab to prepare his chariot before the rain would stop him.” (1 Kings 18:41-44)

“Take note however, that even before Elijah started to pray, he told Ahab to celebrate with eating and drinking for there is a sound of abundance of rain.” (1 Kings 18:41)
