Not Now, Son

He looked at his mother in disbelief. “Why don’t you want to go to heaven, mom?”

She tenderly looked at her son and as her eyes started to smile she said, “Of course, I want to go to heaven, my son, but don’t you realise how wonderful our life on earth is?”

She knew he did not understand and she immediately continued, “I’ve read about the holiness of God in the Bible and the way the angels keep on worshipping Him because He is so awesome. I believe we will feel the same when we meet Him eye to eye.”

“Now think about this, this awesome God is omnipresent. (Jeremiah 23:23-24) He is here with us now.”

“The moment you speak to God and call His Name, He listens carefully.”

“I am able to speak to Jesus and discuss certain issues with Him every second of the day.”

“On days when I’m exhausted I throw myself into His arms and enjoy the tranquil moment that follows.”

“When I am sad, I often press my head against him and cry while tears drop down on His shoulders and He doesn’t care.”

“It often happens that I long for the presence of God. Then I climb into His lap and just sit there with His arms folded around me. In moments like these neither of us says a word. I enjoy His love and I know He enjoys mine.”

“Moments when I feel lost in a crowd, He looks for me, takes my hand and leads me to a person He knows would need me and care for me too.”

She looked at her son in silence and he said, “But mom, when we die we will be with Him in heaven forever without all the problems we are facing in this world.”

Tenderly touching his hand she continued, “With billions of other people in heaven we will all be with Him, yes. It will be wonderful. However, it would not be possible to touch Him, sit in His lap or spend intimate time with Him the way we are doing now.”

“I want to go to heaven, but not now, son. Not while I’m able to feel his arms around me.”

“Spending as much time as possible with Jesus now, would make living close to Him in heaven an awesome experience. He will know me very well and He will remember every second we have spent together.”

“If I cannot get close to Him then, our memories certainly would.”
