The Third Person

“Then he remembered the days of old, Moses and his people, saying: ‘Where is He who brought them out of the sea with the shepherd of His flock? Where is He who put His Holy Spirit within them?’” (Isaiah 63:11)

“Where is He?”

This question is often asked by believers who have had bad experiences or need desperate answers.

He is here! The Holy Spirit is within us. God is always present.

And yet, we often live so far from Him, only in the third person.

Sometimes in church we sing songs referring to God in the third person singular, “praise Him, worship Him” and we cheerfully sing along while He is standing in our midst.

Sometime we need advise from Him but are uncertain how to get it. The Holy Spirit is in us, we can speak to Him or Jesus directly.

There is more to it… we should also be able to hear Him speaking back to us.

Why would God give us the Holy Spirit but keep quiet all the time? Why would God listen and not answer us?

He does not speak to us in an audible voice like He did with Moses. Some people have experienced that but sadly, I am not one of them. He speaks to me using Scripture, signs, ideas, visions, dreams and many other ways.

My son had to work away form his hometown last month. It was late in the day when he returned, and his phone’s battery died. I could not reach him.

When I asked Jesus where he might be, He showed me the neighbouring town. That is all I saw but I knew where he was. I calculated that he would be back home in approximately 30 minutes and 30 minutes later he called me to tell me that he had arrived safely.

Jesus is listening, all we need to do is relax and listen too.

Jesus is here because the Holy Spirit is within us. Do not hurt the Holy Spirit by not speaking to Him. Acknowledge His presence and talk to Him too – in the first person.

“I praise You, Lord! I love You and I worship you!”
