An Awesome Spirit

David and Belle were married on Valentine’s Day 5 years ago. They’ve made a decision not to celebrate the day by buying expensive presents. However, on the morning of the 14th of February, Belle woke David up and handed him a small wrapped parcel.

“Belle, what are you doing? I thought we’ve agreed not to buy presents. We’re going to the movies tonight and that is it.”

She sat on the bed smiling, waiting for him to open his present. “Just open it,” she said.

He smiled back at her, took the parcel and opened it. In awe he looked at the new watch, “Love, this is beautiful, but why?”

She lied down next to him, gave him a kiss a said, “Because I love you and I wanted to make you happy.”

“But I am happy!”

“I know, I am happy too.”

“Belle, you know what? I love you for many reasons; However, the most outstanding fact about you is that you have an awesome spirit.”

She suddenly sat up straight, “What does my spirit look like?”

“Just like you with a tender and loving heart. You know that we’ve been created in heaven and sent to earth on the day we were conceived. Our spirit came from God, just like the spirit of every other person. I also believe everyone has the same beginning.” (Eccl 12:7)

“As you grow up and develop, your spirit develops with your body and soul to become the person you are right now and right now you are beautiful.”

“Many people who started off with awesome spirits were not so fortunate and got hurt. It can be seen on their faces. Some have damaged souls but on the inside, a wonderful spirit still struggles to manage in their broken world.”

“What can we do to help, David?”

“Nothing… only Jesus can. All we can do is introduce Jesus to them and pray.”

“All I desire is that they would look into a mirror one day, past the rugged exterior and recognise an awesome spirit looking back at them from the inside. A spirit God knew before they were born.”
