Someone who had a near death experience described to me what heaven looks like. He could see and feel the green grass. He could also hear, talk, think and remember.
A spirit is a very powerful entity, able to move without legs, hear without ears and do all the things we are able to do but without a physical body. When God created physical human beings, He had to create organs like ears and eyes and a brain in order to do what a spirit is able to do. The spirit has all the capabilities and more than the body has. God created all the angels and spiritual creatures in heaven. They can move, think, speak and experience emotion. Our spirit is no different.
It is easy to understand the body because we are able to see, touch, analyse, dissect and examine it. The soul is more complicated but it can nevertheless, be studied.
The spirit with its invisible and untouchable character, makes it the most complex entity to describe or study. It is one part that we know the least of and yet, it is the most important part.
Because we cannot understand the world of spirits, many Christians still do almost nothing to develop their spiritual experience, and consequently find it hard to have a relationship with the Holy Spirit.
Our spirit is able to communicate with the spirit world, including God.
When we die, our spirit will either go to heaven or go to hell.
It is unfortunate that some Christians find it hard to believe in the existence of the human spirit. Satanists and many non-Christian religions however, believe in the existence of the spirit world as second nature. They often operate actively in the spirit world, although very negatively.
Some people believe incorrectly that our spirit is not active when the body is active. However, the spirit and the brain are constantly interconnected and “communicating” even though we may not be aware of the communication, hence the name “subconscious”. Because we give all our attention to our physical side, the activities of the spirit only become evident when a person rests and starts to calm down.
We are so busy applying our brains in our natural environment that we incorrectly regard our spirit as a silent partner.
Scientists claim that the processing power of the conscious mind is two thousand bits of information per second while the processing power of the spirit is four billion bits per second! The human spirit is indeed not a sleeping partner.
It is a tragic state of affairs that God intended us to operate in complete harmony with body, soul and spirit. We, on the other hand, tend to concentrate on the body only. How different could it be if we would only grasp the fact that we are supposed to operate as a unit.
The most significant fact is that a human being is body, soul and spirit and since his birth, he has to develop and grow into a mature human being, not in body only, but also in soul and spirit.
