Neville was walking towards the top of the hill when he stumbled and fell. While dusting himself off he asked, “Lord, Jesus, I wanted to get to a quiet spot where I could pray and talk to You. Why is it so hard sometimes to get Your attention?” he said smiling.
“Why are you making it so hard on yourself?” Jesus asked. “You always have My attention.”
“I know, Lord but I thought if I could get to a quiet place in nature where I could pray it would be nice.”
“Now why do you want to look down at Me, Neville?”
“Are You down there, Lord? I thought You are here with me?’
“I am glad you realise that. I am always with you but now I’m way ahead of you, waiting for you at the place where I need you and that is not on top of that hill.”
“Where do You want me to be, Lord?”
“Neville, this morning you’ve read Psalm 23 and you have confessed that I am your shepherd. Note that a shepherd is always walking in front, leading his flock to the best pastures.”
“I am the Good Shepherd (John 10:12) and since you have decided to serve Me, you need to follow Me because where I am, My servants will be also.” (John 12:26)
“Do you understand what I’ve just said?”
“I think I do, Lord. You are with people who are in need. You are waiting for me there and when I arrive, my life will take more meaning through Your presence.”
“Yes, Neville but realise that your life always has meaning and secondly, I’m always with you.”
“Millions of people are looking for My presence. Only a few have discovered that I am personally present where people are in need. If they have followed Me, they would have known.”
“You may enjoy your quiet time but now I need you to follow Me. Go to where you usually go every morning. You will soon discover what you need to do.”
